Sunglasses for helmets

Postby trackaddict » Thu Apr 14, 2016 4:46 am

Does anyone ride with a clear shield and use sunglasses in a full-face helmet??? I was gifted with a new Race R Pro helmet but the shield is clear and meant for no-fog and racing. So maybe sunglasses work?

If so, what sunglasses? Need something that is really low profile.

I did several years ago but it didn't work for me. They were prescription sunglasses and when I looked through the visor I saw rainbows. Well not rainbows but you know what I mean. It was pretty but distracting. I think it was something to do with the polarization but that's just an uneducated guess. Things may be totally different now. I'm curious how it works for others. If it does I may try again.

Maui Jims... I wear them with my clear shield and absolutely love them. And if you have a Costco membership (or know some one who does), buy them there because they'll run about $90/pair instead of the exorbitant retail price of $300 - $400/pair.

I do indeed have a Costco down the street! I'll bring my helmet over and check them out.

Re rainbows -- definitely the polarization. I made that mistake when I first started riding. Polarized gets funky with the curved visor. I couldn't see whether a stoplight was red or green!

I wear cyclist sunglasses with a strap or can use the regular side pieces. Strap is just more comfortable for me because my full face helmet is snug. The frame also has changeable lenses for varying light conditions. Cost was around 20 bucks

I've been looking at picking up a pair of Oakleys for this...my regular glasses with curved temples can sometimes be a pain to get over my ears...

Oakleys have a good reputation and a lot of different styles. I personally like Global Vision sunglasses.
I've been there before. Can I get there, again?
