Ladies On Two Wheels

On Sunday, September 11, 2016 Hubby and I visited the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a 3/5 replica of the DC Memorial. It was on display at the Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton, OH. I knew no one on it, I wasn't a citizen of this country at the time but it still was part of my teen years. My Husband had a couple of friends/acquaintances who's names he found.



I couldn't read the personal letters and cards written by the Soldiers.


Reading some of the names of strangers but they were all missed by someone.



These were left by visitors but I don't know if they were from locals or brought along for the tour from Washington.


It wasn't a big crowd when we arrived in the morning, it was quiet but not sad. Lots of people coming as we were leaving.

I'm glad we had the chance to see it. I don't consider it a part of history because it's part of my life.

I'm so glad you were able to see it. It's an incredibly moving experience, at least it was for me. The wall arrives at each location with motorcycle escorts. I was incredibly honored to be an escort for Iowa. We rode through a few towns and each one had folks lined up waving and so many older veterans in uniform. We even had people standing on overpasses across the interstate.

There were over 250 motorcycles in the Iowa group and I was one of 3 women riders.

I would have like to have seen the escorted arrival or departure, I didn't know it traveled that way.

Brings back memories for me! In the '90's' my Dad and I visited the Moving Wall in Bennington, Vermont. It was an emotional time for us. My brother. age 20 yrs. was killed in Vietnam May 7th, 1970. However, our family was blessed that his body was returned giving us closure despite the pain in our hearts. Since then, his name has travelled many miles with others who gave their lives that we might have freedom in our country.

I did not know that the Wall was escorted by motorcylists, either. So amazing!!! My brother was an avid rider and we spent some fun times on our first bikes, together. YamaLady
